
The Work of Byron Katie is a way to identify and question thoughts that cause all the suffering in the world. It's a way to find peace within yourself and the world. The elderly, young, sick,healthy, educated and uneducated, anyone with an open mind can do this Work.
Byron Kathleen Reid became severely depressed after the age of thirty.Over ten years, his depression deepened, and Katie (as they say) spent nearly two years, almost unable to leave his bed and obsessed with the idea of suicide. Then one morning, from the depths of despair, had a revelation that changed her life.
Katie saw that when he thought something should be different from what it was ("My husband should love me more", "My children should appreciate me") she suffered, and when she did not think these thoughts, she felt in peace. She saw that the cause of her depression was not the world around her, but what she thought about that world. In a flash of insight, Katie realized that her efforts to find happiness were convoluted: instead of trying in vain to change the world to match her thoughts about how it "should" be, we can question these thoughts and, by meeting reality as it is, experience unimaginable freedom and joy. Katie developed a simple method of inquiry, however, powerful called The Work, which yielded achieve this transformation. As a result, a depressed woman with suicidal tendencies was filled with love for everything life brings.
