Independence Day

Freedom! That is what Independence Day is really all about--the freedom to be exactly who you are, believe what you want to believe, and pursue life, liberty and happiness. This is what our founding fathers meant when they created the guidelines for this country. All human beings are created equal. We all deserve love, respect, kindness from each other, and should allow every person the opportunity to transform into whatever we wish to be. Let the firework display be a celebration of this freedom!

We honor the body by feeding it fresh, live foods and clean water. We honor the mind by learning, growing, and educating. We honor the spirit by coming together to heal each other, and to share positive energies and inspirational messages. We live our lives every day according to these fundamental principles: honesty, freedom from negative emotions, respecting our elders, and living daily in a state of gratitude. Independence Day is a day to celebrate, but also a day to be thankful for our lives, and to be mindful of each moment we spend with our family and friends.

Many years ago, a few brave souls walked away from negativity, oppression and corruption. They turned their backs on the only life they had ever known. It must have been terrifying, not knowing what the future would hold for them. They felt strongly enough within themselves to take on the challenge of something entirely new. They did it for themselves and for their children. For what else do we have in this life than each other, and isn't that what is truly most important?

Reach out with both arms wide. Embrace each other, and celebrate together. Let go of past grievances and old hurts. They do not serve you. Try something new! Help each other to speak more positively about life. Leave behind, "I'm alright", "I'm okay", and start saying, "I am doing really great!" Give more hugs. Assist the hard-working person who is in the kitchen preparing the food. Listen to your child when they speak. Allow someone to enter your lane on the freeway! Even the smallest effort can mean so much. Most importantly, take care of yourself in every way possible, for only then can you be of loving service to others. When we serve others without concern for the outcome, our positive karma increases. Unexpected gifts fall into our laps. Love grows.

We have the freedom to act with anger, impatience, and jealousy or we have the freedom to learn, give, and nurture ourselves and others. Our predecessors fought to give us the gift of freedom, but it is also a sacred responsibility. Choose wisely.

Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.
