
Chico and Rita is an animated feature-length film Directed by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, co-produced by Catalan national television, TV3.
The film tells the story of two lovers who are the pianist Chico Valdes and singer Rita La Belle, in the context of the music of time. It's set in the cities of Havana, Paris and New York, in which it performs a tribute to Latin jazz and Hollywood movies of the decades of 1940 and 1950. Among the tributed films there are Casablanca, The Godfather (film) and Woody Allen's ones.
The story of Chico and Rita is set against backdrops of Havana, New York City, Las Vegas, Hollywood and Paris in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
The film has been very well received by critics as it writes a "sweeping history" through the "graph magisterium" of Mariscal and "Trueba's knowledge on Latin jazz," Among its awards it is included the Award for best animated film in XXV Goya Awards and XXIV European Film Awards. On January 24, 2012 it was nominated for Oscars in the same category.
The soundtrack, great, became a best seller in Spain to take third place in the best-selling albums and was well received by critics to describe it as one of the best jazz band sound of the last decade.
Chico & Rita was praised by critics broadly upon release, gaining a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
