Sleep well to look beautiful

You might not need beauty creams and make-up tips to enhance your looks anymore, as a new research provides some scientific backing to the age old saying that a sound sleep may help you look beautiful than ever.

According to the study, conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, those who manage to get an eight hour shuteye look far more attractive and healthy than those who are sleep-deprived.

Previous researches have found that a good night’s sleep is influential in reducing wrinkles in the face and the neck.

It suggests that "an individual's sleep history may play an integral part in the perception and judgements of his or her attractiveness and health,” the study authors wrote in the ‘British Medical Journal.’

In a bid to determine the link between sleep and perception of attractiveness, lead researcher John Axelsson recruited 23 participants aged between 18 to 31 years.

The participants were photographed twice, one after taking an eight hour sound sleep, and then again after a sleep-deprived session, and then the pictures were then rated by 65 untrained observers on an attractiveness scale of one to ten.

"Sleep should be seen as the body's natural beauty treatment and a preferred alternative or complement to other beauty treatments," he said.

The study found that sleep-deprived people appeared 19 percent more tired, 6 percent less healthy, and 4 percent less attractive than those who slept well.

Axelsson stated, “Sleep deprived people are perceived as less attractive and less healthy compared with when they are well rested ".
