Prades

Prades is a municipality in the comarca of Baix Camp, in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain.
Located near the highest point of the Muntanyes de Prades range, of which region it is the capital, the ‘red town’ of Prades, which gets its name from the characteristic red stone of the area, is located in the middle of a plateau at an altitude of 940 m, in a densely forested part of the comarca (roughly equivalent to a county) of Baix Camp in the province of Tarragona. Its main features are its cool climate in summer, the beauty of the landscape, the rich variety of its flora and its highly-reputed water.
This town gives its name to the Prades Mountains, located in the vicinity of the municipality. It is a high altitude town, very cold in the winter, but popular as a touristic spot in the summer.
The village of Prades was officially declared to be of noteworthy cultural interest in the category of ‘historical setting’ (9th February 1993).
The main monuments are Santa Maria church in the town, as well as the Ermita de l'Abellera shrine located in an escarpment, outside the town's perimeter.
