Vilanova i la Geltrú

on the Mediterranean coast

City of 70,000 inhabitants situated on the Mediterranean coast.
It has magnificent beaches, is a simple and very modern city and commercial heart of the old Geltrú around the castle of the same name.
Vilanova inhabitants have an open, communicative and empathetic personality, as is natural in all the coastal towns of the Mare Nostrum.

Vilanova has produced many distinguished sons. Among many others,Victor Balaguer founded the museum and its name is today the pride of the city, Francesc Macia was President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, great artists as painters like Joaquim Mir, Alexandre de Cabanyes and Josep Maria Cabayol and in the performing arts we would like to mention International actors like Sergi Lopez and Toni Alba.

Vilanova also has other museums like the very interesting Railway Museum. The fishing fleet and the Maritime Sports Club are the most important of Catalonia. The Carnival festivities with the famous battles of candies are extraordinarily beautiful.
In the summer almost every week there is a festival in a different neighborhood, but the main and very well planned with many fun events is the annual festival "La Festa Major" which is celebrated the first week of August.
