Thinking About Silence

I thought of it,i do think it is indeed profound. I searched the Net for an opening, and stopped when I found this poem of Kyle.J Carruthers, It is entitled Silence is....

Silence is an absence
Silence is profound
Silence is a conversation
Being had without sound
Silence is an expression
One that cannot be heard
Silence cannot be spoken
Although it is a word
Silence is a presence
Of great nothingness
..........

Yes, i think silence at times is much more profound then speech. One is silent with someone when one is thinking; when one thinks that the other person understands - is trying to understand, or incapable to understand at the moment. We often think, that we communicate best, only when we say or write, but often silence is much more effective than saying.

When one is silent, one saves some precious energy, that is spent, in the act of speech. This energy if used to thinks a bit can save several unproductive arguments. One can seldom turn around the other persons opinions by arguing, after same time it is best, to rest, and try to see the other's standpoint. George Bernard Shaw once said:

" Choose silence of all virtues, for by it you hear other men's imperfections, and conceal your own. "

I do think, that one enjoys perfect silence while alone in wilderness or while meditating. We often have great regard for persons who knows when to be silent. We love best in moments of shared silence.

I think, I better be silent after saying this.
