Flexible or Stiff

It is common to be envious, when one comes across a person with a very flexible body. In fact the person concerned can be proud of this trait. But is it equally true of character? Persons with flexible character are often dubbed as opportunist, and often shunned and not widely respected.

Is that being hypocritical or pragmatic?

In technology as well as health, flexibility is a desirable trait, any thing that is not flexible, is stiff and hence liable to get damaged beyond being usable. We often begin with a flexible body at the time of birth but as we grow our body start becoming stiff. Because that is the demand of our life; but many other objects that are designed by us, do not have that trait, they are either designed to be flexible or stiff.

Is that so with our character too?

Character traits like honesty and sincerity are often very stiff. A honest, sincere and hardworking person most often continues to be so all through life, so is the case with ego. A person with a strong ego often retains it and it is very difficult to give it up.

Why is it so?

Can one learn to be more flexible in character like one can perhaps do with one's body? Will it be beneficial in almost all cases? I am wondering on these questions, may be i will have some answers sooner or later.
